To aware the origin, then sense the unflavored
Atits core lies awareness. This project orchestrates a sequence of evolvingscenes and phenomena, reinterpreting natural materials and traditionalcraftsmanship. By drawing in wind and daylight, air flows freely within; wood, stone, bamboo, and plants coexist in their own forms, gradually evolving into aspace with its own essence where people may pause, perceive, and reflect. Byobserving the wind, smelling the wood, touching the soil, and sensing thegreen,
visitorsawaken their innate capacity to feel. Once awareness stirs, one may finally taste what is unflavored.
Theclients, a middle-aged couple originally from Taichung, chose to return to thefamiliar streets of their youth after retirement. Their intent was to mergedwelling with philosophy, translating a lifetime of Chinese cultural wisdominto contemporary practice. From this vision, Unflavored was conceived.
Here, architecture deliberately retreats, giving precedence to air, light, wind, andthe rustle of leaves. These elements are interwoven to resonate with theculinary experience, together expressing a quiet yet profound force thatoriginates from within. Reinterpreting the traditional shophouse format, thedesign adopts an 80/20 balance of indoor and outdoor space, amplifying thepresence of nature.
Withthe infusion of air and daylight, the interior becomes a stage for shiftingambiance and evolving phenomena. Guests encounter subtle cues through all fivesenses, awakening a latent sensitivity to the raw and elemental.
Natural yet intentional strategies shape this living environment.Materials with distinct thermal properties create nuanced variations, whileprecise placement of elements invites wind and light to circulate. As theseenergies flow, surfaces begin their own transformation. Wood, stone, bamboo, and vegetation coexist and interweave, decaying and regenerating in rhythm. Theresult is a self-sustaining, ever-evolving space where one can pause, perceive, and savor light, the primal, and a touch of green.
